Y’S MEN AND Y’S MENETTES

The Y’s Men Club was formed in 1960 with 90 charter members. At the time there were 16 other clubs in the area. Just after they formed, they hosted the International Y’s Mens Club Convention at the Leamington Hotel.

The Y’s Menettes, the auxiliary of the St. Louis Park Y’s Men, was chartered on March 20, 1960 with Mrs. Barry Wilson as president. The purpose of the 17-member group was “service to YMCA, the community and humanity in general.” The Dispatch reported that the goal of the club was to “donate something to the St. Louis Park YMCA when that dream is realized.” This would imply that there were plans for a YMCA facility for the Park. Members planned menus and activities for their Y’s Men husbands. Those activities included “collecting stamps for the Bishop’s fund, a Y-sponsored program which assists delegates throughout the world to attend international conferences of the YMCA. They also contribute to the ‘Park Point’ newsletter of the Y’s Men.”
