5900 EXCELSIOR BLVD.

Although we don’t know when the original building was built, we do know that in 1948 it was owned by Art Engstrom, Jr., JL Engstrom, and a Mr. Leinberger.

In 1951 this address was listed to the St. Louis Park Radio Cab Company.

In 1952 it was rebuilt as a Phillips 66 Station ( JA Johnson Co.). Various names of the station over the years include:

M&A “66” Service (1953-54).  Grand Opening June 5-6, 1953.  Popsicles and pencils for the children, and with the purchase of 7 gallons of gas you got a decanter and four matching juice glasses.

Dan’s Phillips “66” Service (Fall 1954-55), run by Dan Zelenko.

Mike and Milt’s “66” Service (1956)

Swanson Brothers “66” Service (1960)

(George) Keith’s Phillips 66 Service (also 1960-61)

Jack’s “66” Super Service (1961-1964)

Brookside “66” (1966-1970; in 1967 it was Dave Barton “66).

The current SuperAmerica gas station was built in 1978.
