DAKOTA AVE. – ELMWOOD

On the original plat of St. Louis Park Centre, Dakota Ave. was called Lake Street.  This page concerns the one block of Dakota that is in the Elmwood neighborhood.  The data is is difficult to sort out – many of the addresses given in the 1930 Census (the first with street addresses) and the 1933 directory (the first one issued) don’t correspond to the existing houses.  This is the raw data.  Please contact us with any additional information or corrections.

3670 Dakota:  Not an address today.  In 1930 listed as the home of Joe Williams.  We’re pretty sure Joe lived at 3750 Colorado.

3674 Dakota:  The 1930 Census lists William Lien at this nonexistent address.

3678 Dakota:  Zephyr E. and Sadie Wood were listed here in the 1930 Census, but it doesn’t add up.

3680 Dakota:  The 1930 Census lists Glen A. Havens at this address.  Must be an error.

3738 Dakota:  Built in 1990.

3739 Dakota:  Built in 1991.  Takes the place of two houses that were removed from 6333 and 6335 W. 37th Street.

3742 Dakota:  Built by Herbert Carleton in 1904.

3800 Dakota:  A sliver of land by the railroad purchased by the City in 1972.  Not a legal lot.
