The first building at this location was of frame construction, going back to about 1938. It was built by Plehal Heating, owned by William Plehal and Lloyd Lindahl.
In 1947 Plehal built a new brick building at 6002 Excelsior, and occupied it until 1954. By 1959-65 the company was located at 3982 Alabama.
From 1954 to about 1969, the building housed the Pengelly X-Ray Co., owned by L.H. Pengelly.
A variety of tenants occupied the building in the 1970s, including Holiday Cleaners from 1970 to 1974.
In 1985, Showcase Tile and Tops came in, owned by Gordon Grimsby, Beverly Himmelman Fink, and Paul Himmelman. The company moved or went out of business in about 2011.
