The Mandala is St. Louis Park High School’s literary magazine, published at the end of each year starting in 1969. It contains poetry, drawings, and prose written by and for students. Inside the 1971 Mandala is a card that explains the name:
The mandala is the oldest magical and religious symbol known to mankind. the first art form used by modern age children, the mandala suggests the “sun” of a nuclear family in an expanding social universe. Meaning “magic circle” in Sanskrit, a child’s first creative expression using a mandala indicates he has taken the first giant step on the road to self actualization.
