UTICA/MACKEY AVE.

This page concerns only the area south of Excelsior Blvd.

Utica was originally called Mackey Ave.  In 1933, St. Louis Park changed the name of the street to Utica to be consistent with the first alphabet.  However, the street south of Morningside was partly in Edina, and Edina didn’t go along with the change, so that stretch of the street stayed Mackey.

Utica is part of the Browndale subdivision, which was platted in 1915. It largely went undeveloped until a huge building boom in 1939-1941, which might be attributed to the advent of Federally-insured mortgage loans.

Mackey is part of the Browndale Park subdivision, which was platted in 1909.
